Terms of Service
1. Agreement to these terms
These terms govern your use of the Timeslip app and the timeslip.me website (together, the “Service”), operated by the Timeslip team (“we”, “us”). By downloading or using the Service you agree to these terms; if you do not agree, please do not use the Service. You can reach us any time at support@timeslip.me.
2. The Service
Timeslip is a daily history game. Each day at midnight UTC, one new challenge becomes available to everyone worldwide: a moment in history to place in space and time, with clues, an exploration quiz, streaks, and optional groups with leaderboards. Each day also carries deeper material — a written account of the moment, a timeline, and links to videos and podcast episodes about it — and past days remain available in a back catalogue. Daily content is delivered over the internet.
3. Membership
Playing Timeslip is free. Today’s challenge is open to everyone, everywhere — the scene, the clues, your guess, the exploration quiz and your score — along with your streaks and history, the daily reminder, and groups with leaderboards. No subscription, and no account.
A Timeslip membership is an auto-renewing subscription that opens the material around each day: the full written account of the moment, the videos it recommends, the podcast episodes played inside the app, and the back catalogue — browsing the list of past days is free, but playing one again or opening its material is part of a membership, as is sharing an episode out of the app. It is purchased through the App Store on iPhone or through Google Play on Android, and applies to that store’s version of the app; a purchase does not carry across from one store to the other.
- Subscriptions offered: each of the following is an auto-renewing subscription carrying the same Timeslip membership, and both stores offer the same three. They differ only in billing period and they replace one another, so switching between them changes your plan rather than adding a second subscription.
- Timeslip Annual (product app.timeslip.annual) — 1 year, renewing automatically each year, at US $19.99, or the equivalent local price shown in the App Store or Google Play at the time of purchase.
- Timeslip Quarterly (product app.timeslip.three_months) — 3 months, renewing automatically every 3 months, at US $6.99, or the equivalent local price shown in the App Store or Google Play at the time of purchase.
- Timeslip Monthly (product app.timeslip.monthly) — 1 month, renewing automatically each month, at US $2.99, or the equivalent local price shown in the App Store or Google Play at the time of purchase.
- What you are shown: we do not always present all three options, and we test different presentations, so the choices you see may differ from those another player sees. The price, billing period, and any free trial shown on the purchase screen before you confirm are the terms that apply to your purchase.
- Free trial: all three subscriptions include a 7-day free trial for new customers — whichever billing period you choose, your first Timeslip membership starts with 7 days free. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription begins and your Apple Account or Google Account is charged. Any unused portion of the trial is forfeited if you purchase a subscription before it ends. Whether you are eligible is decided by the store, not by us: Apple allows one introductory offer per Apple Account across the whole subscription group, so trying any one billing period uses it up for all three, while Google Play offers the trial to a Google Account that has never held that particular subscription. Either way, if you are not eligible the purchase screen simply shows the price without a trial before you confirm.
- Renewal: payment is charged to your Apple Account or your Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Managing and cancelling: you can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through the store you bought it from — on iPhone, in your App Store account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions); on Android, in the Google Play app under your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, or at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.
- Refunds: purchases are billed by the store, and refund requests are handled by that store under its own policies — Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, Google Play under its refund policy. We do not process payments and cannot issue a refund ourselves, but email us at support@timeslip.me if something has gone wrong and we will help where we can.
4. The app store you downloaded from
From the App Store. The Timeslip app is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which these terms supplement. Your agreement is with us, not with Apple; Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
From Google Play. There is no separate store licence: the Android app is licensed to you under these terms alone. Your agreement is with us, not with Google. Google is not a party to these terms, is not responsible for the app, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it — though your use of the Google Play store itself, including any purchase you make through it, is also governed by Google Play’s Terms of Service.
5. Accounts
You can play Timeslip without an account. Signing in — with Apple on iPhone, or with Google on Android — is optional and is required only for groups and for recovering your history on a new device. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account, and you can delete your account — along with all synced data — from inside the app at any time.
6. Display names, group names, and conduct
The only text you can publish through Timeslip is your display name and the names of groups you create. Names must not impersonate others or contain content that is offensive, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, or infringing. Group members will see your display name and your results, as described in our Privacy Policy. We may reset names, remove groups, or suspend accounts that break these rules.
7. Fair play
Please do not cheat. You must not attempt to extract answers from the app or its content delivery, submit falsified results, access our servers other than through the app, use automated tools against the Service, or interfere with its operation. You must not reverse engineer the app except to the extent applicable law permits despite this restriction.
8. Intellectual property
Everything that makes up Timeslip — the daily scenes, narration, clues, quizzes, artwork, software, and branding — is owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a limited, personal, non-commercial, non-transferable licence to use the Service. You may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from Timeslip content.
9. Availability and changes to the Service
New daily challenges require an internet connection. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features of the Service over time, and we do not guarantee that it will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
10. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Timeslip’s historical content is created for entertainment and learning; we work hard on accuracy but do not warrant that every detail is complete or error-free.
11. Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Sections 10 and 12 apply only to the extent permitted by those laws.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service, and our total liability for all claims is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim arose. Where liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, our liability is limited to re-supplying the Service or paying the cost of having it re-supplied.
13. Termination
You can stop using the Service at any time by cancelling your subscription through the store you bought it from and deleting your account in the app. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms. Sections 8 and 10–14 survive termination.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria, Australia have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute — without limiting any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we do, we will update this page and revise the effective date above, and flag material changes in the app or on this site. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
